Quebec City Part Un
Quebec!
After 10 hours we made it!! We stayed a very small hostel outside the main town. The first night we arrived we took a cab into town and we had a taxi driver that just made us love Quebec people without knowing anyone... he took us to our destination but on or way we told him it was our fist time in the city and he was telling us how he would have loved to have been a tour guide for the city.. or that he would confirm himself with smelling shit and riding a horse carriage around all day and night. He stopped our fare at ten bucks and gave us a sweeeeeetttt tour through the old city and told us interesting facts about random things in the city.... we were love struck...
we just went out to the Grande Allee (a street filled with bars, clubs and restaurants) to bar to hang out and have some drinks. We next day we decided we needed to take this city by its horns and discover a great chunk of it in one day!! I knew we would be able to do this because: 1. I had planned this for the past 2 weeks and by writing on the maps as to where we would go exactly and 2. we didn't have much time in the city.
We first discovered the Old city of Quebec. The Vieux Quebec is surrounded by walls and the only way in or out is by gates or Ports. We first headed to the La Citadelle this was used by the British when they took over Quebec and defeated the French to protect themselves from the attack of the Americans (which they only attacked twice but wayy before the British took over) So now the Citadelle is an active military base. As lucky as we can be we made it on time for the changing of guard ceremony...lucky us! But honestly one time is enough for this changing of guard thing... maybe when I go to London I shall watch... because its obvi that that is legit... anyway... so as us being explorers and not wanting to go with a guide tour group we decided we should discover this Citadelle for our selves until we got stopped by one of the our guides and were told that if we were caught walking alone without a group tour we would be arrested...whatt ok.. I guess tour guide it is...good thing it was free...I'm not being cheap but Andy and I love to explore things on our own and not having to follow a massive group around...but hey,.. kinda glad we were on this tour...we learned soo much of Quebec's history and it really helped put everything into perspective.
It had great views of the St. Lawrence River. The big...err HUGE cannon in the picture weights tons and it took like 12 men to just turn and move it! This was pointing towards the river to be shot just in case of an attack from the Americans...
We tots got a picture with the guard...I don't know about you but I think that is sweeeeettt!! haha
Once out of this base we went down St. Paul (a street) and had lunch at a Italian place...you'd think we'd have some cool Quebecois | French food... but nah we were too hungry! and how little is this world there was a cute waitress and she kept talking to us in French...then when leaving since they were playing spanish music we asked another waitress if they liked the Spanish music and she said they were tired of the same old music and had their Colombian waitress make them a fresh new CD. And we're like Colombian?????? haha and she was next to us and she was soo sweet.. hayyy que pena como asi!!? ustedes son Colombianos!! Que rico!!! De que parte? Y que van a hacer esta noche? .....
She gave us a name of a club that played spanish music...ha so random!
Then walking down St. Paul once more we ended up at the marvelous Chateau Frontenac. Once a very famous castle for the wealthy is now a 5 star hotel... Right next to the Chateau is a boardwalk with an amazing view to the river.
A couple of years ago they discovered an underground city right below the boardwalk. We went to explore and got a chance to try chocolate from 300 years ago...
We stopped at the Notre Dame Cathedral ... b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l.
More coming soon!
